One of the most important features that Microsoft has been working on lately for Microsoft Word is a modern comment experience.
Click File - Options On the resulting dialog in the Customize Ribbon Tab at the bottom click Keyboard Shortcuts - 'Customize' In the left pane select Review Tab In the right hand list scroll down and select 'Insert Annotation' You will see the default Alt + Ctrl + M Enter your required keys in the box on the right Click Assign and close the dialog. In Word, click on File, Options, Proofing, Autocorrect Options. In the grid that pops up, type a two- or three-character shortcut in the Replace box. In the With box, type the sentence that you want your computer to type for you. Create your own “text expander” using shortcuts. To use a keyboard shortcut, press and hold one or more modifier keys and then press the last key of the shortcut. For example, to use Command-C (copy), press and hold the Command key, then the C key, then release both keys. Mac menus and keyboards often use symbols for certain keys, including modifier keys: Command (or Cmd) ⌘. These shortcuts should work in all versions of Mac OS X and with all Cocoa based apps, including Safari, Chrome, TextEdit, Pages and the iWork suite, and most other Mac apps and text editors. Update: These keyboard shortcuts will also work with iOS devices that have a keyboard attached via Bluetooth or through a dock.
The software giant has previously released these modern comments as a preview, and earlier this week, it announced that after going live on mobile and web versions of Word, the feature is now live in the production channel for Windows too. It has also been promoted to Current Channel (Preview) on Word for Mac.
“With modern comments, you no longer have to worry about your comments being seen by others before you’re finished editing them. After you draft a new comment or reply, click the Post button or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Enter (Windows) or Cmd + Enter (MacOS) to share your thoughts with others. Now, a comment or reply can only be edited by the person who created it,” Microsoft explains.
Microsoft has made working with comments as simple as possible. All comments are now displayed in a dedicated panel showing up to the right of the page.
Improved mention feature
In addition, the company has also developed a simplified way to view comment threads and mark them as resolved for easier management.

“Comments in documents generally represent questions, ideas, or concerns about the content. When those have been addressed, comments allow you to mark that thread as resolved. Resolved comment threads won't appear in the contextual view (though you can still find them in the Comments pane) to help you stay focused on what’s active,” it says.

And of course, adding mentions in comments is also a lot more straightforward in Microsoft Word, as enterprise users working on cloud files can now include a call out to anyone using this feature. Just press the @ key and then mention the name of the colleague you want to be notified.
